Colares DOC is one of Portugal’s oldest controlled denominations; its sandy coastal vineyards preserved vines that other regions lost to phylloxera. Quinta da Regaleira reflects Sintra’s 19th-century Romantic and esoteric influences.
The coastal cliffs and small vineyards are ecologically sensitive; stay on paths, avoid disturbing vines, and support producers who maintain low-impact practices.
