Read the full experience

A thin late-afternoon sun slants across the Nile as the felucca's simple canvas bellies catch the breeze and the city slides by. You sit low in the wooden hull, the river nudging the keel, and Cairo's skyline—squat hotels, minarets, and the green fringe of riverbank trees—becomes a moving frame. Conversation dials down; the water sets the pace.

Adventure tips

Timing for lightChoose early morning or late afternoon to avoid harsh sun and to catch softer light for photos.

Sun protectionBring broad-spectrum sunscreen and a hat—the river reflects sunlight and increases exposure.

Stable footwearWear flat, non-slip shoes for boarding and moving on the low-deck felucca.

Pick-up detailsConfirm hotel pickup point and timing; transfers are air-conditioned but schedules are strict.

Recommended gear

Sun hat or cap: Shields your face from reflected sunlight on the river.
Light windbreaker: Blocks the evening breeze on the open Nile deck.
Non-slip shoes: Safer for boarding and moving on the low, sometimes wet deck.
Small camera or phone with strap: Capture low-angle river views; a strap prevents drops from the boat.
