Shell Key is a beautiful place to paddle. The water is shallow and you can paddle through the mangrove tunnels. Your island destination has white sandy beaches. You can walk the beach, search for shells, and swim in the crystal clear water.
It's about 2 miles out to the island and 2 miles back. It's not difficult, but be prepared to paddle! Paddle out at your own pace and explore the island.
There are often dolphins and sometimes manatees. Pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills can be seen along with white pelicans in winter months. You will be immersed in wildlife.
