You step out into Shanghai dusk and the city answers in lights: neon glass towers in Pudong wink across the dark ribbon of the Huangpu, while the Bund’s colonial façades glow under floodlights. The evening begins in the French Concession — a low-slung, tree-lined quarter where a trendy Thai restaurant offers bright Tom Yum, papaya salad and warming curries before the river calls.
