You set out from Accra before the heat builds, the air-conditioning of your vehicle a hush against the city bustle. The road eases into scrub and granite outcrops; at Shai Hills the savanna seems to lean forward, curious. Rock faces rise like old bones, and small herds—antelopes and zebras—pause as if measuring you.
moderate.
6–8 hours.
Moderate fitness: able to walk 30–60 minutes over uneven ground and climb short rocky sections.
Yes — the tour description indicates admission to both Shai Hills and Aburi Gardens is included.
This is a private tour with pickup options; confirm your Accra pickup point when booking and allow time for traffic.
Sightings are common but not guaranteed; wildlife is free-ranging so visibility depends on time of day and animal movement.
Not recommended: the itinerary includes short walks on uneven surfaces and vehicle transfers; travelers with severe mobility restrictions should consult the operator.
Aburi Botanical Gardens were established in 1890 by the British as a hill-top sanitarium and planting site; Shai Hills contains ancient granite outcrops important to local Shai communities.
Visitors are asked to stay on marked paths, avoid feeding wildlife and support entry fees and local guides that fund reserve maintenance and community projects.
