You emerge from a cool tunnel of Atlantic Forest onto a narrow village lane; the air smells of damp stone, wood smoke and frying cheese. Visconde de Mauá’s three villages—Mauá, Maringá and Maromba—unfurl along the valley, stitched together by cascades and cobbled streets. The audio guide leads you from one waterfall-glass plunge pool to the next, the narrator’s voice timing a local story as a stream dares you to follow.
