Arrive half an hour before departure at 818 Connecticut Avenue NW and the city opens like a map under your wheels. After a 30-minute hands-on Segway lesson, the guide leads a small group across broad, paved avenues—past the White House, curling along the Tidal Basin where cherry trees lift their branches, and out onto the National Mall where stone and bronze demand a second look.

The National Mall and its monuments reflect city planning shifts from L’Enfant’s 1791 plan to the McMillan Plan of 1901, which shaped the Mall’s axial layout and many memorial placements.
Stay on paved paths and respect memorial gardens—high foot traffic stresses turf and cherry trees; use public transit to reduce local congestion and avoid feeding wildlife.
