The road north of Salvador opens up into a ribbon of coconut palms and salt air — the Coconut Coast. Drive past fishing hamlets and sugarcane fields until Praia do Forte appears: a low-lying beach town where the ocean pulls back to reveal rocky tide pools and coral flats daring you to step closer. At Projeto Tamar, you’ll see the slow, deliberate work of conservation — tanks, educational displays and, if timed right, hatchlings making their first dash toward the surf.
