The main species we can find are: The sea lion species commonly found at Espiritu Santo Island is the California sea lion (Zalophus californianus). These intelligent and social mammals thrive in the island’s rich marine environment, where they hunt for fish and squid. Their playful behavior and dynamic social structures are vital for maintaining the balance of the local marine ecosystem. Conservation efforts are essential to protect their habitats and ensure their continued presence in these vibrant waters.
During this activity, we can expect to see many different species of sharks, rays, marine mammals and pelagic fish in general. We support different programs of citizen science collecting data from animal behavior and movement that can serve to estimate population dynamics and also the value of the ecotourism industry. With that, we hope to help scientists to better understand and provide the means to protect the marine fauna that we are observing. Whenever it is possible we include Marine Biologists as guides or 2nd guides during our activities to improve the educational experience and also provide them a platform for research programs.
