Description

A great day to visit iconic places in The Highlands

Eilean Donan Castle

Recognized as one of the most iconic images of Scotland all over the world. For sure, it is the most romantic castle in Scotland! The first fortified castle was built in the mid-13th century. It was partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719. The castle's building today was only rebuilt from earlier ruins in the years between 1913 and 1932. It is the stronghold of Clan MacRae.

Loch Ness

Loch Ness is 22.5 miles (37 km) long and it is the biggest loch in the UK by volume, with enough fresh water to supply England and Wales. Its deepest point is 230 meters and it is located by the area where Urquhart Castle is located.

Urquhart Castle

Located at the shore of Loch Ness, it was one of the largest castles in Scotland. With over 1000 years of history, from a medieval household to a place of many battles during the Wars of Independence, the castle is a must-visit place in The Highlands.

Fort Augustus

A small village between Inverness and Fort Williams where Loch Ness has its south face. The Caledonian Canal, a master project by Telford, connects Fort William to Inverness and passes through Fort Augustus in a dramatic series of locks stepping down to Loch Ness.
