Located on Florida’s historic northeast coast, St. Augustine offers visitors a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty. One of the standout ways to experience the region is aboard Schooner Freedom Charters, where guests enjoy private sailing experiences on the beautiful Matanzas River and the Atlantic Ocean inlet. Schooner Freedom is a classic schooner that brings an authentic sailing experience combined with a professional, attentive crew who cater to every detail, from hoisting sails to providing complimentary refreshments. The charters provide guests with spectacular views of St. Augustine’s waterfront, including glimpses of historic landmarks and natural wildlife, such as frequently spotted dolphins playing near the boat.
The sailing excursions vary from afternoon sails to peaceful sunset cruises, each highlighting the charm of this coastal town from the water. Guests have praised the friendly captains like Captain Jack and Evan, whose extensive knowledge of sailing and the local waterways adds both excitement and safety to every voyage. Families, couples, and locals alike appreciate the chance to engage directly with sailing operations, including hands-on sail handling, making the experience interactive and educational. The Matanzas River area features diverse ecosystems, including salt marshes and tidal flats that support a rich variety of coastal birds and marine life. Sailing here provides a front-row seat to Florida’s unique coastal habitat, a perfect blend of natural wonder and historical significance given St. Augustine’s status as the oldest European-established city in the U.S. For visitors and residents, Schooner Freedom Charters represents a must-do outdoor adventure that combines local history, nature, and the timeless joy of sailing.
