About

Leave the city behind and join us in a beautiful outdoor classroom on the river! Learn paddleboard and kayak skills while also discovering the estuary through hands-on activities during this group program. A certified Guide, plus trained assistants, experienced in working with youth, will provide instruction. Students will spend 2 hours learning to kayak and/or paddleboard in protected embayments on the Hoboken side of the Hudson River with stunning views of Manhattan as the backdrop. As paddling skills improve, the Guide (plus assistants) will lead the group out on the river on "mini-expeditions".

  • Note: During multi-session/multi-week programs, students may also learn navigation, trip planning and emergency rescue skills in accordance with the American Canoe Association "Paddle Smart" youth curriculum. Multiweek programs may also make use of Hoboken Cove beach and shoreline park areas where students may participate in cooperative, environmental games, or "catch and release" exploration with nets or climate change related art projects.

Challenge can build resilience. Experience can build understanding. Resilience Youth Paddling Programs provide fun, cooperative, and challenging on-water adventures that help build personal resilience, compassion for others and a greater understanding of the Hudson River ecosystem.

This weekday program follows the American Canoe Association youth curriculum and industry standards for risk management. The “challenge by choice” model will be used to ensure comfort while allowing each student to participate at his or her own level and develop skills at his or her own speed. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to participate in outdoor adventure and exercise. Explore the Hudson River Estuary and join in on the fun and challenge of paddling!
