The square opens with the clack of sneakers on flagstone and the day's first espresso steam curling past your team. You start at Piazza Monte Grappa, phones in hand, listening to the app hand you the first riddle; the city answers with narrow alleys, a record shop's cryptic sticker, and a pizzeria where a menu hides a cipher. The hour moves fast — street noise becomes your soundtrack and the old town's corners suddenly feel coded.
moderate.
1 hour.
Moderate—comfortable walking pace with short standing or crouching to inspect clues; not suitable for long-distance hikers.
The experience is designed to last about 60 minutes from the starting point at Piazza Monte Grappa to Piazza San Lorenzo.
The game is available in English, Italian and German through the Sato Code app.
Minimum two players; each person should have a smartphone and internet access, though one hotspot can serve the team.
Recommended for ages 13+ with supervision; puzzles are challenging and the organizer suggests active participation from at least 13–16 years old.
Varese's old town grew in the medieval era and later acquired formal gardens and baroque architecture that now frame the pedestrian core.
Keep the game low-impact: respect private property, avoid leaving litter, and be mindful of local businesses when examining storefront clues.
