You step onto the coach before dawn in Sarajevo and watch roadside hills pass like a quiet audience. Srebrenica was declared a UN ‘‘safe area’’ in 1993 but fell to Bosnian Serb forces in July 1995, leading to mass killings and expulsions that are commemorated at Potočari.
Visitor respect and donations to the memorial support ongoing forensic identification and community programs; follow site rules to minimize physical and cultural impact.
