The bus hums north from Hanoi as mist thickens into the Hoang Lien Son foothills and the road tightens around switchbacks. By midafternoon you step off near Y Linh Ho and follow a trail that threads through rice terraces and along the Muong Hoa stream — terraces folding like steps up a mountain, water glinting and daring you onward.

Day hikes are moderate: the longest is about 9 km (~3.5 hours) with rolling climbs and descents; the second day is shorter (≈4 km). No technical climbing required.
