The catamaran slips out of Rethymno at first light, the Cretan coast shrinking behind you while the Aegean opens like a bright, mobile horizon. Salt and wind press at your face; after a two-hour crossing Santorini’s black cliffs appear—sheer walls scored by ancient eruptions, crowned with white cubes of houses clinging to the rim.
moderate.
Approx. 12 hours (full day).
Suitable for people with basic fitness who can manage short uphill walks and many stairs; not recommended for those with severe mobility limits.
Expect about 2–3 hours each way by catamaran depending on sea conditions and the vessel’s speed.
Meals are not typically included; you’ll have free time in Fira and Oia to buy food at cafes and tavernas.
The cruise and some transfers are accessible, but Oia and Fira have many stairs and narrow alleys—mobility access on the island is limited.
You’ll view the caldera and volcanic islets from the rim; direct landings on Nea Kameni (volcanic islet) usually require a different boat excursion and extra time.
Santorini’s caldera is the remnant of a massive Late Bronze Age eruption (Thera) that reshaped the island and influenced regional Bronze Age cultures.
Santorini faces water scarcity and heavy tourist pressure—stay on designated paths, avoid single-use plastics and support local businesses that practice sustainable water and waste measures.
