You begin at the edge of the Pacific — the Santa Monica Pier rearing into the ocean like a wooden platform for the day ahead. Salt-sweet air pushes at your face as you mount an electric bike and point south, the coastline unfolding in broad strokes: Venice’s murals and muscle-clad boardwalks, the tidy yacht lines of Marina del Rey, then the wide, athletic sprawl of Manhattan, Hermosa and finally Redondo Beach.
