The trail opens with a thin high‑Andean light as the van drops hikers at Baños Morales (1,900 m). You push off immediately into a steep talus and scrub climb: the first hour makes your lungs and calves the story’s protagonists. Above the switchbacks the slope eases and a broad valley lays out—moraines, braided melt channels and the glacial lagoon that marks the San Francisco lookout at about 2,500 m.

The advertised route is roughly 16 km round trip with about 600 m of elevation gain; plan for a 10–12 hour day including transfers and breaks.
No technical climbing skills are needed—the route is a trekking trail—but good fitness and comfort on steep, rocky terrain are required.
The tour includes a bilingual guide who leads the group, handles logistics and points out flora, fauna and geology.
This tour is not recommended for people with cardiovascular or significant respiratory conditions due to rapid altitude gain and sustained exertion.
