In an hour you move from Little Italy’s low-slung storefronts past the clang of maritime memory at the USS Midway, weave through the Seaport Village promenade, and loop around Petco Park and the Gaslamp Quarter — a concentrated downtown sampler that lets the city reveal itself in short bursts.
