A cold dawn breaks over Cusco and the bus hums away from the city, climbing into an open, wind-buffed world where the Andes command the horizon. By midmorning you step into Soraypampa, tents pitched beneath the sharp white face of Salkantay; the mountain seems to watch the expedition like an old guardian. A climb up to Humantay Lake delivers an impossible blue framed by glacial ridges — the water almost dares you to linger.

Good cardiovascular fitness and experience with multi‑day hikes at altitude; able to hike 5–8 hours on steep terrain.
Tickets can be secured if booked at least two months in advance; later bookings may require itinerary changes or an added night—confirm with the operator.
You’re expected to carry a daypack; group logistics allow horses/porters to carry up to 5 kg of personal gear for the first three days.
Travelers may experience symptoms above 3,000 m; acclimatize in Cusco, hydrate, ascend slowly and inform guides if you feel unwell.
