It’s different: Salkantay is longer and reaches higher elevation but avoids Inca Trail’s heavy stone steps; both demand good fitness and acclimatization.
Altitude is the main challenge—symptoms range from mild headaches to severe illness; acclimatize in Cusco, hydrate, eat light meals and descend if symptoms worsen.
