On this private run to Sakarun, the sea does the guiding — turquoise shallows daring you closer, limestone cliffs funneling the boat toward hidden tunnels and a rusting wreck that holds half-forgotten stories.
Dugi Otok’s western shelf is a product of karst limestone pushed up over millennia, creating steep cliffs and sheltered bays. The military tunnels near Božava are relics of 20th-century coastal defenses, concrete mouths along a shoreline long used for fishing and seamanship. The sunken 1980s vessel you’ll visit has become an artificial reef; Posidonia meadows and small fish now claim the hull, and gulls circle like timekeepers.
Expect easy-paced stops for snorkeling around the wreck and a longer anchorage at Sakarun — renowned locally for its pale sand and shallow, clear water. The route offers photo-ready panoramas and quiet corners to stretch legs, dip, or picnic. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a light wind layer, and sturdy water shoes for rocky landings. Morning departures make the most of calm seas and clearer water for snorkeling; afternoons bring warmer light and often a breeze.
This is a day built for low effort and high payoff: a mix of shallow-water exploration, light history, and wide Adriatic views. Plan for sun exposure, protect marine life by avoiding anchoring on seagrass, and allow extra time if you want to stop for a seaside lunch on the return to Zadar.
