About the Class

You, your instructor, and crew will live aboard your chartered sloop learning everything you need to know to cruise down the Chesapeake Bay. Four nights will be spent at anchor or in an area marina returning to BaySail on day 5.

This advanced sailing course is for sailors looking for that certification recognized around the world enabling you to “act as skipper of crew of a 30 to 45 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters.” Successfully completing of our ASA 103/104 Bareboat Coastal Cruising class qualifies you to apply for the International Proficiency Certification (IPC). The IPC is required by most European/Mediterranean charter companies as proof of your seamanship.

• Advanced sailing skills aboard a larger sailing yacht (30 to 45 feet) with an inboard diesel engine. • Skills include sail trim, docking, anchoring, mooring, heavy weather sailing, navigational chart plotting and electronic navigation. • Course covers safety, seamanship, provisioning, marine engine systems, cabin and galley systems, and meteorology. • The minimum age for our ASA 103/104 certification is 16 • Prerequisite ASA 101 (or equivalent experience)

Notes: This is a live-aboard class for 4 nights, maximum of 3 individual students or 2 couples may register (if only 1 opening left, couples can call to register together). At least two people must be enrolled in this class in order for it to happen. BaySail reserves the right to cancel this class and refund or reschedule if less than the minimum number of students are enrolled.
