About

The Middle School Race Team is a competitive program for sailors who are ready to take their skills to the next level.  Our team is crafted to provide a challenging yet supportive environment, fostering growth in sailing expertise and personal development. Middle School Race Team sailors learn independence, critical thinking, and self-reliance at a young age as they compete solo, or in pairs in their boats.

**The Middle School Race Team aims to provide: **

Technical Excellence : Sailors in this program will focus on refining techniques, optimizing boat handling, and mastering advanced maneuvers to prepare for competitive racing.

Tactical Racing Strategies:  Sailors will be introduced to the strategic side of racing. Emphasizing on the water decision making by reading wind patterns and understanding race course dynamics.

Fitness and Conditioning : Recognizing the physical demands of competitive sailing, the Development Race Team will incorporate fitness and conditioning into the training program.

Regatta Participation in regional competitions and skills / resources needed to attend higher level regattas and events that CBC may not be able to directly support.

Team Dynamics and Sportsmanship: We believe that teamwork and sportsmanship is a key component of a successful race program. Sailors will develop interpersonal skills, learn effective on the water communication, and understand the value of collaborating within a racing team.

Whether sailors are aiming for podium finishes or simply seeking personal growth, the Middle School Race Team is designed to elevate racing skills and passion for the sport.

Eligibility

Beginner and intermediate Middle School Students grades 6th - 8th.

Required Gear

All sailors are required to wear a lifejacket with a whistle, which the CBC will provide. There will also be days that we will require a wetsuit (which we can provide) or you won’t be able to sail. We strongly encourage proper gear such as gloves, booties, and no cotton (we have these available as well!). On the days we are not able to sail we will do team workouts, including cardio exercises, team members must always be prepared for running.
