Sail to Papagayo: Private Boat Charters from Playa Blanca to Dolphin-Filled Coves

Off the golden coast of southern Lanzarote, Barco Papagayo Excursions R227 (7pax) drops anchor at a string of beaches that feel removed from time. Based in Playa Blanca, Canary Islands, Spain, this small motorboat charter runs half-day and full-day trips that thread between volcanic headlands, sheltered coves and the famed Papagayo stretch of powdery sand and clear blue water. Meet at C. Acatife 9, Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, 35510 to board; fuel is included, and the operator notes that a licence is required for operation. What sets this excursion apart is the coastline itself: rugged volcanic cliffs framing coves of golden sand, basalt outcrops, and reefs where visibility often exceeds twenty meters. The captain will slow for snorkeling on rocky reefs that attract green sea turtles and shoals of bream, and keep an eye out for bottlenose dolphins that commonly ride the bow wake. Because these beaches are part of Lanzarote’s sunbaked southern fringe, winds can shift quickly; sheltered bays like Papagayo offer calm water ideal for swimming and freediving. Trips run from roughly 2–6 hours, so you can pick a quick cruise to a single beach or a longer itinerary that explores isolated coves and the volcanic shoreline. The vessel is compact and private—ideal for families or small groups who want a flexible pace, beach time, and the chance to anchor at an uninhabited islet. Photographers will find dramatic low cliffs and clean horizons; snorkelers will find abundant rocky scenery and clear water. Practical details matter: the price tiers include short and longer rentals with fuel included; check-in and exact departure point may vary—verify at booking. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a light wind shell, sturdy sandals for rocky shore landings, and a dry bag for electronics. The boat is a local gateway to Los Ajaches country—its volcanic forms record ancient eruptions that shaped southern Lanzarote and attracted fishermen for generations. On longer six-hour charters guests can explore the volcanic inlets near Montaña Bermeja, visit secluded coves that lack roads, and anchor for multi-spot snorkeling that may uncover octopus and parrotfish among the reefs. The operator's pricing—ranging from shorter two-hour bursts to the popular four-hour option—makes it simple to match energy and weather each day. Early-morning departures often guarantee glassy seas and better light for underwater shots, while late-afternoon sails deliver warm colors across black lava and white sand. Book ahead in high season to secure the boat that fits your group. Whether you’re chasing a calm swim, a private beach picnic, or a sunset cruise, Barco Papagayo Excursions R227 (7pax) offers easy access to some of the island’s most photogenic coves. It’s a simple, sea-level way to read Lanzarote’s geology, spot marine life, and stretch out under the expansive Atlantic sky.
