We will have you back at the dock before noon on the last day of your trip.
Explore the coast of Maine under early summer skies. One night of the cruise, we will join the rest of the Maine Windjammer Fleet for a raft-up that feature live music, fabulous food, and a grog toast. The festivities will take place in a harbor determined by the wind and tide and will include opportunities to walk from one ship to another enjoying music & tapas along the way!
Joining us for this adventure are musicians, Brigid & Johnny Reedy.
The J. & E. Riggin, a beautiful, historic two-masted schooner. She was designated a National Historic Monument in 1991. She is 89′ long on deck, 120′ overall, 23′ wide and draws 7′ with her centerboard up. She was built in 1927 as an oyster dredger and rebuilt for passenger sail in 1977.
The Riggin is fully equipped with GPS, radar, and radio. She meets all Coast Guard requirements for construction and safety equipment. Certified to carry passengers, she fully meets all requirements for stability and watertight integrity. The Riggin has no inboard engine. Her sixteen-foot diesel-powered yawl boat can be used during calm spells for maneuvering into or out of tight harbors.
Maine’s coastal weather can change rapidly; bring waterproof and insulating layers to stay comfortable on deck.
Familiarizing yourself with sailing phrases will enhance your engagement and safety aboard the tall ship.
Decks can be slippery when wet; sturdy, closed-toe shoes with good grip are a must.
If prone to seasickness, prepare with medication or natural remedies to enjoy the sail fully.
Windjammer sailing dates back to the late 19th century when these majestic ships were vital to the lumber and fishing industries along Maine’s coast.
The crew practices Leave No Trace principles and partners with local marine groups to minimize environmental impact and protect coastal ecosystems.
