After getting flooded out year after year at our camps by the bridge, we secured a permanent home in Chitina in 2019. We have since been developing our campground and currently offer 12 sites for either a tent or RV. We also offer 4 premium outfitted tent sites for those who don't want the hassle of packing and setting up their own equipment. Camp is within walking distance to our food truck (The Grubstake), country store and Uncle Tom's tavern. Our camp is ideally situated for fishing the Copper and as a base for travels down the McCarthy Road to Kennicott and McCarthy inside Wrangell-St Elias National Park!
Each RV/Tent site is equipped with the following amenities:
Wi-Fi 15amp Power Water Charcoal Grill Fire Pit Picnic Table
Reserve your tent or RV spot well in advance, especially during peak season, to guarantee availability.
Bring layered clothing and rain gear, as weather conditions in Alaska can shift rapidly, even in summer.
Local water conditions can affect fishing success, so inquire about current river and lake statuses upon arrival.
Maintain a safe distance and store food securely to avoid wildlife encounters, especially with bears and moose.
Chitina once thrived as a gold rush boomtown, and remnants of the old mining camps add to the area's rugged history.
The site and surrounding areas are managed with a focus on low-impact camping and preserving the pristine wilderness for future generations.
