The ride begins with the rumble of a single-engine ATV and the scent of wet earth as the machine climbs out of Rancho El Jaguar toward El Mirador. Dust settles behind, birds call from the canopy and the trail opens to a jagged ridge where the valley and bay sit like two different climates, one daring you inland, the other pulling the eye toward the Pacific.
