You step off the minivan and the humid air seems to breathe itself into your clothes — a green world that presses close and asks you to walk slowly. The trail climbs out of the dirt road, threading through tree ferns and stands of heliconia, then opens to a viewpoint that looks down on the broad, brown ribbon of the Napo River. Rivers here do more than run; they insist, they invite.

The core walking portion is about 3 hours to the viewpoint and additional trail time to caves and community for a total of roughly 6–8 hours; difficulty is moderate with muddy footing and some sustained climbs.

Common sightings include macaws, parrots, howler monkeys and a variety of forest birds; sightings aren’t guaranteed, so bring binoculars and stay quiet.
