You arrive at Tenorio Volcano National Park under a humid canopy; droplets bead on heliconia leaves and the air smells faintly of sulfur and wet earth. Walks here move between dense primary rainforest and sudden river clearings where Rio Celeste appears—an almost surreal, milky-blue ribbon that seems to glow against dark volcanic rock.

The guided walk inside the park is about 3 hours on trails of roughly 5–7 km round-trip; the full tour from Guanacaste is typically 8–9 hours including transport.
Swimming in the hot springs is prohibited by park rules; visitors should also avoid entering the blue river to protect the delicate mineral balance and for safety.
Children can do the hike if they’re used to walking several kilometers on uneven terrain; operators often require age information and may have minimum group sizes.
