The first step out of Sembalun village cuts through a dry, grass-swept plateau that opens like a map to Rinjani’s western flank. Wind brushes the tall savanna; every ridge and gullied valley ahead frames the long climb to the Sembalun crater rim. By late afternoon the group reaches camp at 2,639 m, where the air thins and Segara Anak Lake sits below like an inland sea daring you to look over the edge.
