The coastline around Ritoque recorded observations by Charles Darwin in 1834 and has long been a seasonal fishing and salt-harvesting landscape before becoming a recreational corridor.
The dune systems and wetlands are sensitive to trampling and off-track riding; operators limit routes and educate guests to minimize erosion and protect bird habitat.
