Full Tour Description

Retrace Rembrandt’s steps as you explore the district where the artist once lived. On this 2.5-hour private guided tour, your guide will lead you to explore Amsterdam’s streets, visiting the sights and places that inspired some of Rembrandt’s iconic paintings, before having a guided visit of his house with skip the line access.

Begin by following your guide through the Spiegelquarter, the traditional district for all things art and antiques. You’ll then walk onwards towards the Keizersgracht, or Emperor’s canal, to learn about one of Rembrandt’s best-known apprentices. In Rembrandt Square, discover the Night Watch Guards – one of the artist’s most famous works – which is recreated in bronze sculpture. Further on in the Staalstraat, hear about the local Drapers Guild, immortalized by Rembrandt, before learning about the old Jewish quarter around Waterloo Square. Rembrandt and his wife Saskia lived here, near the Amstel River, and you will visit the artist’s house, now a museum celebrating his contributions to Dutch art. The museum features the original house with a meticulous collection of 17th century period pieces, reconstructed thanks to historical auction records. Wander the etchings, artefacts, and rooms as Rembrandt himself once did. His small office and other personal items offer a glimpse into the life of this artistic genius.
