Continuing Wheel Throwing Course at Deep Blue Ceramics is a four-week block of studio time and technical coaching in Weston, Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Set at 5 Souter Place, Weston ACT 2611, this course gives potters who have completed a beginner wheel class space to practice and refine the motion, pressure, and rhythm of throwing. The class is led by Amy from Deep Blue Ceramics and capped at ten students, which keeps instruction personal and immediate. Each 2.5-hour session centers on the wheel: centering clay, pulling consistent walls, opening and shaping cylinders into cups, bowls and shallow plates, and developing repeatable pressure for even rims. The studio supplies the clay and handles bisque firing; glazing is not included, though participants may glaze later or use the studio kiln service. Bisque-fired pieces are typically available for collection three to four weeks after the final session. What sets this course apart is its focus on practice over prescription. Unlike a sequenced intermediate program, sessions adapt to individual goals—whether that’s producing a matched dinner set, refining trim and footrings, or learning a new hand position that saves your wrists. Amy’s approach blends concise technical cues with encouragement: subtle nudges that improve centering, tips to control speed, and troubleshooting for collapsing walls. Small class size also creates an atmosphere of shared problem solving among makers. For visitors based in Canberra, the Weston studio is an accessible stop for a creative afternoon or a concentrated monthly commitment. The course functions as a local production incubator for emerging makers and a quiet creative alternative to outdoor activities nearby. Practical details matter: public dates require at least five students to run, and you must have completed a beginner wheel throwing course before enrolling. You’re welcome to bring your own clay if you prefer a specific body or texture. Expect hands-on time on the wheel and occasional demo moments; plan to stay focused rather than spectator. Bring an apron, old towel, and a notebook for measurements and throwing notes. If you’re chasing consistency, this is the space to build it—repetition under expert eyes produces measurable improvement. Whether you want steadier walls, cleaner openings, or the confidence to attempt a small production run, this continuing course at Deep Blue Ceramics supplies concentrated time, supportive coaching, and the studio resources to leave with tangible progress and handmade work you can use. Classes run on public dates year-round; check the studio calendar for current blocks and booking details. Because sessions emphasize repetition, regular attendance across all four weeks maximizes results. Whether you’re returning after a break or pushing toward a production quota, this course turns studio time into visible, lasting improvement and connects you to Canberra’s active vibrant local ceramics community.
