Visit one of Denver’s most interesting public parks, located in the foothills west of Denver, where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. On our Highlights walking tour (2-3 hours), you’ll meet your guide at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre and dive deep into the history of the area, starting from its original use as a ceremonial space for indigenous peoples to a popular destination during the Western gold rushes.
We’ll see first-hand the transition to the area’s modern-day use as an outdoor amphitheatre, learning about its incredible construction, setting the stage for famous musicians and bands that have made Red Rocks an award-winning music venue. You’ll hear stories about 1940’s Big Bands, early rock and roll and country icons like Johnny Cash and The Beatles, legendary bands spanning the decade from Grateful Dead to John Denver, and electronic dance music – something for everyone.
We’ll stop inside the Visitor Center, where you can find your favorite performer on their floor-to-ceiling schedule of every concert since 1941! If we have more time, we can include a visit to the Colorado Music Hall of Fame and Trading Post or walk through the unique geological features that give this area its name.
Our Half-Day option (4-6 hours) will allow us to really envision Red Rocks as it was 300 million years ago and see proof of one of geology’s greatest mysteries - the Great Unconformity.
As we hike around the area (all levels from novice to more experienced), get up close to the rock structures and listen to how dinosaurs left their mark in and around the park. Your guide will also be able to tell you about the unique plants and animals that call this area home – get your camera ready because there will be some amazing photo ops!
Colorado is known for its craft beer and uniquely Colorado food, and the amphitheatre loves to support local! On a longer tour option (6-8 hours) and during open hours, we can dine at the on-site restaurant with menu items that include green chili and elk sausage as well as craft beers or specialty cocktails using Colorado whiskey. Or plan ahead and pack your own meal and enjoy a picnic in a space once shared by music legends!
