A cool morning on the Tara River starts with mist lifting off crystalline water and a chorus of river stones sliding below your raft. You meet skippers at a riverside camp near Šćepan Polje, share a hearty Montenegrin breakfast, strap into neoprene, and drive by off-road vehicle to the Brštanovica put-in. The first strokes push you toward a sequence of carved limestone walls and narrow chutes where the river speeds up, daring you into the next rapid.
