Named after Queen Sofia, it is housed in the 18th century former General Hospital building in the heart of Madrid’s cultural “Triangle of Art” and close to The Prado and the Thyssen Museums. Opened in 1992, the Reina Sofia Museum provides a fitting home for the Spanish National Art Collections from 1881 (the year Picasso was born) onward.
