MORNING DEPARTURE OPTION:

Depart from the Frostburg Depot at 9:00 am and enjoy a leisurely railbike ride all the way to Cumberland. ( please check in by 8:40am)

About

A 2+ hour railbike ride with return trip on a historical train aboard the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Over 15 miles of track mostly on a downhill grade (the last 3/4 mile will require some effort) The route includes beautiful scenery through the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland. We will go over bridges, through The Brush Tunnel, coast parallel to the Great Allegheny Passage and wave hello to cyclists as we pass through The Narrows. We will finish the first leg of our tour as we glide into The Queen City, Cumberland, MD.
The terminus of the excursion is at the Historic Western Maryland Railway Cumberland Station at Canal Place. Our tour guides will point out the restrooms and get you your train ticket to board the train for the return trip. The train leaves promptly at 11:30 so please board as soon as possible. The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad operates several historic locomotives, some diesel and on occasion the largest operating steam engine in the country, 1309. We can not guarantee what engine will be pulling the train on any certain day.

AFTERNOON DEPARTURE OPTION:

5.5 Hours ( including 2 hour layover )

Check in on street level on right hand side of train station at 13 Canal St. Cumberland, MD Look for a dark red bus with Tracks and Yaks signage to check in. The train leaves at 11:30 , please allow time to find parking ( details in confirmation email) and board train by 11:20.
Enjoy the train ride up the mountain aboard the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad up to Frostburg. Once you arrive in Frostburg, enjoy a 2 hour layover. Visit the Trail Inn Cafe and Mount Savage Firebrick Pizza across the street and grab lunch. Grab a table on the deck and watch the train spin around on the Turntable, stroll through The Thrasher Carriage Museum and explore the Miners Memorial all within steps of getting off the train. Head back towards the depot for your 3:00 railbike departure back to Cumberland. 2 hours and 15 + miles of railbike fun, mostly all downhill.
