The trail begins with the rumble of island roads falling away and a green hush that thickens as you enter Cockpit Country. Under a canopy of broad-leaved trees, the Quashie River threads through limestone gullies; the current teases and dares you toward a handful of small falls and a cave mouth gaping in shadow. Guides move at a steady, informed pace—pointing out medicinal plants, pointing to old charcoal stains where local cooks once prepared food, and leading the group over slick rock and low cliff bands.
