The van eases off the main road and the hum of Punta Cana’s resorts fades into a busy plaza where colorful stalls lean toward the street, offering sun-warmed larimar and amber, hand-stitched fabrics and wide-brimmed hats. Shoppers step down onto tile warmed by the Caribbean day, greeted by the scent of roasting coffee and the sweet spice of Mamajuana bubbling in a wooden jar.
