Join me on my very popular Cheese "Shopping Walk" in Amsterdam!
I'll take you around Noordermarkt to get some more and introduce you to my favourite cheese stalls and tell you about their specialities. Four very different cheeses from different countries will be purchased and then we'll have a 20 min walk to to enjoy the cheeses with a couple of glasses of local Dutch Wine in a very special, and almost secret, wine shop that only stocks Dutch wine! My cheese selction will be based on "Something Old, Something New, Something Stinky, Something Blue!"
You'll learn about the different styles of cheeses, how they are made and what makes them special, how a cheese in a shop looks good (or past its best) and about the different types of Dutch cheese and what cheeses rinds are safe to eat (and which ones the rind is the best part!). There'll also be plenty of time for questions and for me to share some cheesy tales and as usual, a competition with a cheesy prize!
Dutch Wine? Yes, there are many wonderful Vineyards in the Netherlands producing mostly fresh and zingy white wines, but also some great reds and fortified wines too.
The price includes the market walk (approximately 45 minutes), cheeses to eat in the wine shop with bread and 2 different wines (additional wines can be added on the day).
• The cheese walk and workshop will take about 3 hours (but may go on later if there's lots of questions!) • Note that this event is not suitable for young children or dogs. • The talk will be given in English.
The tour includes market strolls and a 20-minute walk to the wine shop on city streets.
The guide encourages interaction and a lively Q&A session during cheese tastings and wine explanations.
Due to the nature of the workshop and tasting, young children and pets are not allowed.
Additional wines can be purchased on-site to enhance your tasting experience.
Noordermarkt has been a key gathering place since the 17th century, hosting food markets and lively public events.
The workshop promotes sustainable local vendors and supports Dutch wine growers who focus on eco-friendly vineyard practices.
Essential for navigating market stalls and city streets safely and comfortably.
Protects against occasional rain during outdoor walks.
