History

Chianti’s truffle tradition links back generations; wooded parcels were managed for fruit, timber and fungi as part of mixed small-scale agriculture since medieval times.

Conservation

Responsible foraging is emphasized—guides avoid over-harvesting, the dogs locate instead of dig indiscriminately, and guests are urged to follow Leave No Trace practices to protect soil and fungi networks.

Adventure tips

Wear long pants and sturdy shoesTrails are uneven with underbrush and occasional mud; closed-toe hiking shoes and long pants help prevent scrapes and tick exposure.

Bring insect repellentMosquitoes and ticks are common in wooded, damp spots—apply repellent and check for ticks after the walk.

Hydrate and pace yourselfThe 5-hour schedule includes standing and walking; carry water and rest when the group pauses for demonstrations.

Respect the dogs and the landKeep distance while dogs work and follow the guide’s instructions—disturbing search areas can harm future truffle growth.

Recommended gear

Closed-toe hiking shoes: Provide traction and protection on uneven woodland trails.
