Arenal’s major 20th-century eruptions (starting 1968) reshaped local communities and tourism, turning the area into a hotspot for geotourism and hot springs.
The park and surrounding private reserves emphasize trail protection and responsible hot-spring use; visitors should avoid off-trail hiking and respect local waste guidelines.
