About

Go back in time and visit the 1st century Roman Temple, the Evora Cathedral, the São Francisco Church that houses the chilling Chapel of Bones. Find out what gave the city the UNESCO World Heritage status.

Enjoy free time for lunch and then head to Arraiolos. A sunny village that developed on the side of its castle. Known for its embroidered rugs with centuries of history. The rugs are handmade by embroiderers in gestures that are repeated for over 500 years.

With the expulsion of Jews and Moors from Spain by Catholic kings, the exodus began. Many were those who settled in Portugal. At that time, D. Manuel I reigned under pressure from the Catholic kings in Spain to also expel Jews and Moors. Several were the ones who decided to settle in Arraiolos, due to the warm welcome, abundance of herds, excellent wool and diversity of plants indispensable for dyeing the wool and manufacturing the canvases. With the presence of Jews and Moors, Arraiolos rugs gain new expression and greater vitality.
