Private Sunset Cruise on Margate Back Bays Aboard the CAPTAIN ROBIN

On the low, salt-scented west side of Margate City, New Jersey, the 2.5-hour Sunset Cruise – Private Charter aboard the CAPTAIN ROBIN offers a private, celebratory way to watch evening light spill across the back bays. Designed for groups up to 25 and open to all ages, this outing folds shoreline scenery, shallow salt marshes and distant Atlantic horizon into one relaxed boat party. The vessel’s clean onboard restroom and comfortable deck space keep logistics simple so you can focus on the sunset and company.

The cruise runs along the back bays of Margate on the waters behind Absecon Island, where low dunes give way to marsh grass, wading birds and glinting channels that pick up color as the sun drops. You’ll pass narrow tidal creeks and broad flats, and the light at golden hour sharpens the textures of rippled mud and scallop-shell beaches. Because the charter is private, it’s ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, retirements, bachelor/bachelorette parties or any milestone you’d rather celebrate without a crowd.

Practical details matter: the trip is two and a half hours, departure asks guests to arrive thirty minutes early to check in and board, and gratuity is not included. The Captain Robin accommodates groups of mixed ages and keeps things accessible and social; no special skills are required. The operator positions the boat to catch sweeping bay vistas and the western sky at sunset, making it easy to move around the deck for the best view without blocking sightlines for others.

Local context gives the cruise a distinct feel. Margate’s back bays are part of the barrier-island system off southern New Jersey—an ecosystem of marsh, flats and protected inlets that supports herons, ospreys and seasonal fish runs. That landscape makes for quiet, reflective sunsets that differ from open-ocean breaks: shallow water, long shadows and a horizon that feels close enough to touch.

Bring light layers, a camera and a cooler if you plan a small picnic; the trip’s casual format welcomes personalization. The Sunset Cruise – Private Charter is less about speed and more about shared, framed moments: a small group, a gentle boat, low light and the company you chose. For travelers staying in Atlantic City or nearby Shore towns, this is one of the clearest, most private ways to see Margate’s quieter water side.

Guests often personalize the boat with low-key decorations, a curated playlist and snacks—operators allow modest food, drink and recommend sealed containers and a responsible approach to alcohol. Because the charter is private, photographers and bands can arrange locations for group portraits without crowded backgrounds. Bookings fill up on summer weekends and holiday evenings, so reserve early to lock a date and departure time for your group soon.
