A boat cuts a bright line through the Caribbean at dawn, the city of Cartagena shrinking behind you as low islands begin to pierce the horizon. Adventure tips

Bring reef‑safe sunscreenTraditional sunscreens damage coral—choose a mineral, reef-safe formula and reapply sparingly between swims.

Protect your camera gearSalt spray and sand are unforgiving—use a waterproof case or dry bag for phones and cameras.

Watch for boat trafficStay with the group when entering or exiting the water; boat propellers can be active near docks and mooring spots.

Hydrate and pack snacksAn eight-hour day with sun and exercise increases dehydration risk—carry a refillable bottle and light snacks.

Recommended gear

Snorkel mask and snorkel: A well-fitting mask improves visibility and comfort during reef swims.
Reef‑safe sunscreen: Protects skin while minimizing harm to corals and marine life.
Water shoes: Protects feet on rocky beaches and slippery boat gangways.
