Château de Labourdonnais preserves a 19th-century sugar estate and colonial domestic architecture; Fort Adelaide was constructed by the British in the 1830s to oversee Port Louis.
Coastal areas are sensitive: avoid trampling dunes and support local producers at the château and markets; reef protection and responsible snorkeling preserve marine habitat.
