You start on a narrow footpath under a wet, green ceiling; leaves drip and small streams thread the trail, while the island’s wind carries salt from bays you haven’t reached yet. The guide sets the pace—pointing out glossy endemic leaves, the black land snail, and the tiny Sooglossidae frog that only appears in these moist hollows. Hikes climb and open: sudden clearings reveal ridgelines that push your view across Mahé to nearby islets and the shimmering Indian Ocean.
