Winemaking in Napa and Sonoma accelerated in the mid‑19th century; the modern industry expanded after the 1960s and was internationally spotlighted after the 1976 Judgment of Paris.
Many wineries participate in sustainable and organic practices; limit single‑use plastics, follow winery rules about staying on paths, and dispose of waste in the vehicle to reduce vineyard impact.
