The day opens on a broad horizon: Mt. Fuji rising like a folded map of ice and rock while Kawaguchiko’s water mirrors the summit and drifting clouds. You start in an air-conditioned private car, windows framing changing faces of the mountain — wooded foothills, lava-formed caves, and small Shinto shrines tucked beneath cedar canopies. The driver-guide times stops so you can step out, listen to a spring-fed pond, and climb a short stairway to a pagoda-viewpoint that demands the camera.
